JULY 12, 2014, 12:00-4:00PM.

The Dikeou Collection will host the second installment of the Family Saturday Workshop 2014 Series on Saturday, July 12 from 12:00 to 4:00pm. This month’s workshop will focus on British artist Sarah Staton’s anti-paintings and gauche studies.

Staton’s canvas for “Endless Column (apple core)” is not white, but rather dark blue denim where she uses bleach to remove the dye from the canvas. This is how she creates her “anti-paintings.” This inversion of the painting process makes the artist more aware of negative space and creating clear images with a limited color palette. In this month’s workshop, participants will create their own anti-paintings not with bleach, but with stencils and paper cut-outs, which will be painted over to create areas of negative space.

Drop in any time between 12:00 and 4:00 to participate in this workshop. 20-minute guided tours of the collection will be given at 12:15 and 2:00. This workshop is free to attend and no RSVP is required. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Dikeou Collection is a Contemporary Art Collection in Downtown Denver that was established in 1998 by siblings, Devon Dikeou and Pany Dikeou. Operating as an extension of New York publication, zingmagazine, the Dikeou Collection features work of approximately 30 international artists. Devon Dikeou is an artist herself, the founder, editor, and publisher of zingmagazine, as well as a collector. Her interest in the platform of exchange between collector, artist, viewing context-museum, collection, gallery, magazine, and viewer engendered her artistic practice, zingmagazine, and the formation of the Dikeou Collection.
